Last year our graphic designer at Rue, Julie decided it was time to give her home office a little update. As a freelancer who often works from home, she needed a comfortable workspace that inspired her and kept her focused.

Today I’m sharing all the details on the apartment I designed for myself when I first moved to San Francisco and before I married and began sharing a home with Andrew. After my light colored bachelorette pad in Chicago, I was excited to go in a completely different direction and play with dark colors when I arrived to San Francisco.

In September 2010 Rue launched its premiere issue to 10 million pageviews. I was 27 at the time and our founding team of five was in New York City for our launch party.

I was 27 years old, newly single and living on my own in Chicago. It’s been years since this apartment was mine, but it still brings such fond memories every time I think of it.

Today I’m sharing a charity design project I worked on that started with an email from the team at One Kings Lane. They were working with the Hartland Hotel, a location providing affordable supportive housing to those transitioning out of homelessness, located in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.
